Shipping is expensive, no doubt about it. I think we've all been having "sticker shock" after the recent incomprehensible rise in fuel costs. Shipping companies long ago adopted the "fuel surcharge". Amazing. Like they were going to ship stuff without fuel, but suddenly discovered they had to use fuel, so well, they need to charge extra for that. OK, enough of the rant, what are we going to do about it? We are going to cut your shipping costs, that's what!
For a limited time, to celebrate our new web site, we are offering The Captain's Flat Rate Shipping. It's pretty simple. Your cost is based on the weight of your order. Although you are given several shipping options during checkout (regular UPS, Priority Mail Flat Rate Box, or The Captain's Flat Rate Shipping), if you choose Flat Rate Shipping, your order will be shipped basic UPS Ground. This applies only to the lower 48 states. Alaska, US territories and APO/FPO addresses will need to choose Priority Mail for coffee. None of our roasters, grinders or brewers fit in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box, so please call us for shipping pricing. UPS does not deliver to post office boxes, so don't try. If you are in a situation where you can't accept UPS Ground, then please choose one of the Priority Mail options.
The Flat Rate Shipping rates are as simple as the concept:
1-19 pounds for $8.94 20-39 pounds for $14.94 40-60 pounds for $21.94
Regular UPS Ground is still available and in some cases may be less expensive. So take a good look at the shipping page during checkout, choose what works best for you and take advantage of our web site grand opening special. How long will it run? Well, we haven't decided for sure, but with those fuel surcharges we can't keep this up forever. Enjoy it while you can!
OK, other than Clipper Shipping, how do we help you save on shipping costs?
We almost always ship the next business day after your order. Actually a lot of orders go out the same day--anyway, we get it on it's way to you as quickly as we can. If there will be a delay, we let you know.
We do not charge for boxes, bags, packaging or anything. Just what the shipper charges us..
We don't ship Parcel Post. Roasters, grinders and brewers are shipped UPS ONLY.
Hawaii: Department Of Agriculture regulations won't allow us to ship raw coffee to Hawaii.
We charge you only what the Post Office charges us, should you select Priority Mail. There is no "handling" charge. Right now, the "real time" Priority Mail shipping charge calculator is not active on our web site, so if you need Priority Mail, and a Flat Rate Box (which is active) won't accomodate your order, please call us at 1-877-505-4083.
We actually charge you less than UPS charges us, should you select that option, because you are only charged UPS base rate, their fuel surcharges are not applied--we pay those. Again, there is no "handling" fee, nor any hidden charges.
We prefer to ship UPS because tracking and insurance are available. If you select Priority Mail, tracking is not available.
To keep your shipping costs down consider the following:
- Place larger orders. UPS charges a fee to originate a shipment. After that, the price per pound for the shipment decreases with higher weights--your overall cost may be higher, but your price per pound will be less.
- UPS charges a higher rate to ship to rural areas. They also place a surcharge on residential delivery. Unless you pay extra, they do not generally deliver on Saturday.
- Priority Mail will be delivered on Saturday, and may be more economical to rural areas. However, as we said, tracking is not available.
- Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes may be economical for you. The smaller box holds 1-12 pounds of coffee. The larger box holds 13-19 pounds of coffee. The rate chages every once in a while, but we only charge you the "on-line" rate, which is the lowest available.
- Double check that you give us the correct shipping address to avoid delays and charges for changing the destination once we've shipped (if in fact it is possible at all).
- If you have an APO/FPO address, try to order 19 pounds of coffee (or less) via Priority Mail. This will apply to coffee only. If you have an APO/FPO address and are ordering a roaster, grinder or brewer, please call us at 1-888-505-4083 and we will discuss shipping options with you.
- UPS won't ship to a post office box or AFO/FPO address, so don't try.
